Chris Blocker received his Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee and is the Tracy Family Faculty Fellow and Professor of Marketing at Colorado State University. His program of research focuses on understanding value creation in the overlapping domains of service, sales, and society. Chris’ research appears in the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of Service Research, Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, and Harvard Business Review, among others, examining areas such as organizational purpose, transformative value creation, human scarcity, consumption poverty, vulnerability, social service ecosystems, and social enterprise. His recent work with colleagues develops an organic theory of purpose orientation, a strategic approach articulating how firms are evolving beyond market orientation to create transcendent value for societal stakeholders, while clarifying the distinct roles marketing can play (trustee, steward, change agent, value facilitator). Prior to entering academia, he worked in global account management, sales, and professional consulting within the B2B division of AT&T. He currently serves as co-chair of the Transformative Consumer Research scholarly network and teaches an all-university core curriculum course titled "Transforming Business for Sustainable Impact," focusing on critical thinking and the grand questions that arise within the domains of economic, social, and environmental impact in business.
